Home Experiment: Build a Raft

Last week, we've posted a home experiment for building a Baking Soda Rocket which got a very positive feedback from our readers, so we've decided to post a new home experiment this week - Building a small scale raft.

Materials you'll need

  • Water Tray

  • Small figures (e.g Lego figure)

  • Corks

  • Tape

  • Aluminium Foil

  • Egg Cartons

  • Sponges

  • Lolly sticks

Instructions

  1. Out of the materials you've collected, try to build a raft you believe would float.

  2. Put the raft you've build on the water tray.

  3. Add figures on top of your raft - how many of them can you put before the raft sinks?

  4. Extra challenge - Change the raft you've built to allow more figures on it before it sinks.

This home experiment is also great as a small competition between your kids - enjoy!
